SONY’S HAD ANOTHER AMAZING IDEA ALL BY ITSELF!
It’s something for PS3 that the PlayStation creator is calling “Friends” – it’s a “list” of people you play online games with. A sort of “Friends list” if you will.
Where do they get these brilliant ideas from?

I think it might be where all the HD episodes of “Friends” you can download (at a premium) are stored.
My favourite is “The One Where Sony Buggers The Customers”, Joey is especially hilarious when he impersonates Ken Kutaragi.

What’s a “friend”? Is that what you get online? I can’t get my Playstation 2 online unless I open up the back and put a PC in it (Xbox won’t fit and the Dreamcast might get dirty) so until I go online I’m going to play Rape Bitch Murder Street 4: Los Burritos

And the king said: “Their ingenuity and originality shall be praised throughout the land” Soonafter making that statement, the peasants begun to revolt.

Hey watch out! That square’s coming for you!
May 26th, 2006 on 4:03 pm
But don’t you get it? They’ve merely done the opposite! The two faces means two friends are as good as having “up to 6 billion [player] friends”. Genius!!

What if my friends aren’t siamese BNs?

Brilliant! Sony invented video games in 1995, and they’re about to invent online gaming and having friends!
May 26th, 2006 on 7:05 pm
wow, where are all the rants in defense of sony? did the heads of them humorless folk finally explode?
May 26th, 2006 on 7:38 pm
I’ll volunteer if you like…
*deep breath*
Well, what else where they going to call it? Strangers? Colleagues? Aqaintances?? Other silly buggers who splashed £425 on this thing? Online grooming tool??
[/rant over]
That do?
Maybe they’ll let us bring our friends list over from Live as they’re called the same thing…

Watch out, you’ll upset psychospeed. Sony have no doubt come up with a novel twist that makes it ever so slightly different to that which we’re already familiar with.
May 26th, 2006 on 10:59 pm
Bet it doesn’t have a rumble feature.
May 27th, 2006 on 1:55 am
Come on guys, be fair… Lacking in originality Sony may be, at least they let us make friends with all those sick perverted paedophiles that Nintendo won’t let us play with (unless we go look for them in a chat room, send them naked pictures, and swap Friends Codes first).
Paedophiles need love too!

Squall, Steam has a friends list!? all this time it’s been telling me they’re sorting it out. I’ve never seen the friends list working since Steam started :(
I’m using that XFire thing which in all honesty is probably better, but still…

“Brilliant! Sony invented video games in 1995, and they’re about to invent online gaming and having friends!”
Where are the sarcasm markers?

Sony will be showcasing their next new fantastic breakthrough in gaming environment….Sony Gaymer gongs! where Sony Gaymers can collect points via playing online Games such as MSG- Flacid Snake eats Viagra edition.
God bless Phil “mein” Harrison and his posse of Sony dildo execs!!

Whatever happened to having your friends beside you, in the same room. Sure I have a lot of e-buddies, but that doesn’t compare to my mate Matt, kicking my ass in Pro Evo 5.
May 28th, 2006 on 10:33 am
does it come with these “friends” or do you have to but them as an accessory
May 28th, 2006 on 12:43 pm
Erm, can you start a thread about Sony contemplating not to release the 20GB model in UK so we can all moan about that and argue amongst ourselves? Thanks.
May 28th, 2006 on 4:25 pm
they actually made a typo, they meant fiends not friends.
now, that could be innovative.
May 29th, 2006 on 12:15 am
“Where are the sarcasm markers?”
What’s sarcasm!?
May 29th, 2006 on 2:27 pm
Damn! Let’s see Sony’s options:
1) Add a friend list function –> Booo…sony stole that! They lied…
2) Not adding a friend list function –> LOL. You can’t have friends with PS3. Sony is stupid!
3) Adding a friend list function with a name other than “friends”-> What a stupid name, they should have called it “friends”
May 29th, 2006 on 3:15 pm
Fivos,
Not really sure what your point is..
Im not surprised that Sony are having some sort of ‘friends’ list with the PS3, but dont you think that they should be trying to offer something more than just a feature that has already been done with the 360?
If they really wanna justify the £425 price tag, i think they need to start blowing me away with some originality. Even if they announced something like a ‘Friends Forum’ for the PS3 where people can post comments publicly to each other, as shit as that idea is, at least it’s different! Some fuckers are getting paid thousands of pounds for what? Chucking out features that we should find as standard in next generation consoles!
So far for your £425, what incentive, or what competition does the PS3 offer..? BluRay… ? These amazing graphics that we have yet to see?? Bullshit.
Sonys only interested in getting as many BluRay players into as many households as they can, cos they’ll make a fuck load more money out of that than they will in the games industry.
They’ve learnt a valuable lesson since the PS1, ‘Consumers will now by our product on brand name alone.’ Probaly why you’ve seen your beloved Playstation quality go drastically downhill since the PS1. And cunts like you fall for it everytime and for some (insane) reason feel the need to stay loyal to a company who couldnt a flying fuck about you anyway.
So to all the Sony fan boys, buy your Playstation 3, watch your amazing anti-scratch, slightly thicker, ridicuosly expensive BluRay films on your disgustingly over priced Sony HD Tv (with the panels made by another company anyway) and play your ever so pretty but boring as fuck first person shooter and marvel as the flames burning on screen ‘almost look real!’
Lets not start an arguement here, just agree with what i say. .. cunt.
May 29th, 2006 on 4:32 pm
*Claps*
Anyway, when do people reckon PS2s will be cheep enough on eBay to warrent a purchase?
May 30th, 2006 on 8:07 am
Come on Managing Director, You can do it!!,
Not really sure what your point is..
Wow i wish my argument had been a high mumber of swearwords that doesnt actually say anything. I dont think Sony have justified making people pay £425 for a Blue-Ray player because stand alone players only cost between $1,000 and $1,800 seems a bit crazy that you get a games console and storage device in there too. Free internet gaming really cant see why its worth it yet. XBOX360 makes you pay for gaming online so i guess thats the best bet. Buying a stand alone HD-DVD player for XBOX360 make sense though right? Jesus instead of moaning about things just enjoy what we’ve got, YOUR A GAMER who gives a shit how you play games just do it! I’m not a Sony fanboy i just want to give every console a chance. I agree with Fivos because what ever Sony does they cant win aganist people they have already wronged.
One last comment…When people played PS3 at E3 where they playing videos because there has been ACTUAL footage of ACTUAL games at E3.
May 30th, 2006 on 9:54 am
i think the most sensible thing to come out of this discussion is that we need more employee of the week.
May 30th, 2006 on 9:55 am
p.s.
can wii play dvds?
May 30th, 2006 on 10:41 am
Squall,
I can see where your coming from, and perhaps there was too much swearing in my post, but as a GAMER as you pointed out, my main interest is playing games..
Now, if your right in saying that a Blu-Ray player sells for $1,800.00 then i suppose a PS3 at £425 is a bargain (thats exactly what Ray M from Sony Europe called it anyway!) but to be honest, it’s slighlty annoying that as a gamer, im being made to buy into some expensive hardware that i wouldnt usually buy.
Im not always gonna disagree with what Sony do, but the things you mention as reasons to buy a PS3, to me, dont really mean anything!
I also agree with you that it seems a bit of a waste to buy a HD DVD drive for the 360 as a seperate peripheal, but i do like the fact that it was offered as an extra, rather than have bumped the launch price up by £100.
Lets wait and see about Sonys Online plan before we just assume its gonna be free… probaly gonna involve monthly payments per game ala FF for 360.
And yes, at E3, people were playing ACTUAL game footage.. but it just looked a bit shit, hence all this controversy in the first place.. not really sure what your point here is ;)
May 30th, 2006 on 4:51 pm
Come on Managing Director, You can do it!!,
see now i respect your opinion because your rose above just writing about how “ghey” PS3 is, thank you. I agree with some of the games looking poor but in my opinion they look alot better than the 1st generation of 360 games which i was unimpressed by…i’m still not impressed with either console graphics wise expect maybe sonic only because i actually want his babies.
May 30th, 2006 on 5:39 pm
Squall,
No im not impressed with either to be honest.
I can sound as anti-Sony as i like, but the irony is i’ll be getting one on launch anyway i’d imagine! Im not strong enough to resist a new console :(
But i’ll make sure i get a black one and then write “Dreamcast 2” on it in tipex and only play Sonic and Virtua Fighter.
May 31st, 2006 on 10:47 am
i don’t see what the big deal is tbh. every online console venture has to have a friends list. of course they’d have to call it ‘friends’. i don’t think something like ‘buddies’ or ‘gamerpals’ would do it really.
we’re just having a laugh, man. we’re not really believing that sony ‘stole’ the idea of a friends list as there isn’t really an idea to steal – it’s just what you’d expect from an online gaming thingy.
if it DIDN’T have a friends list, then there’d be a problem!
i agree with MD here regarding having blu-ray forced upon us like this. with the ps2, i didn’t feel like i was being forced into buying a glorified dvd player (glorified is the wrong word, considering the crapness of said dvd aspect) as the price of the console was the same as others before it.
the problem here is that the ps3 is priced stupidly high and ONLY because of the inclusion of the blu-ray player.
sony’s other excuse – about the super-duper cell processor – is a load of rubbish and they know it; there’s no way they could sell it at a higher price on the strength of the processor alone cos we don’t care if it’s called cell or if it can link with other cells or if china thinks it’s so powerful it’ll launch nukes, it’s still a flipping console and so should be priced accordingly
June 1st, 2006 on 11:41 am
Bit late here but I want to add my two pence.
I’m not too amazed by the Blu-Ray player aspect and agree with other people in being annoyed that it’s pushing up the price and we don’t get the option to choose. That said, I suppose one of the reasons it’s been included unless you’re completely cynical and think it’s simply to get as many Blu-Rays out there is that Sony has learnt the downside of the optional extra. Arguably one of biggest shit aspects of the PS2 was it’s lack of a standard HDD as no company is going to develop a game that requires it as it just means their game ends up being £40 more unattractive.
But I’m not going to whoop about how at £450 with a blu-ray, it’s a bargain because I’ll bet my right bollock that it isn’t. If the PS2 DVD player is anything to go by I suspect the Blu-Ray player will be crap. I thought the PS2 DVD playing function would be awesome but as it turned out it ran loud as hell and the drive burnt out within 5 months. A similar priced DVD player was infintitely better.
The other reason is that even if other standalone Blu-Ray players are going to 16 billion USD or whatever daft prices are getting thrown around, you can bne certain those prices will plummet within 5 months when the early adopters are exhausted

Check out this Burrito Game:
http://www.moes.com/burritosforlife/game.html
Basically, Moe’s is having a national burrito eating contest and this game goes with it. But it is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen. You gotta watch out for the armadillos. I bet you cant eat 45 burritos!
-Good luck
