The age of consent is 16 in NZ, and works fine. Anyone who thinks an AoC under 18 is the realm of rednecks is sorely mistaken. You can keep your puritan fundamentalist-defined laws though, teenagers should be allowed to shit, breathe, eat and have sex with each other just like anyone else.

Clearly a stage name. At home they probably call her Red.
I mean, there is a huge difference between a 14 year old and a 25 year old. I don’t think that difference is important between, say, a 14 year old and a 16 year old.
Well, there’s nothing wrong with the AoC being an absolute value. 16 is ok but unless kids continue developing earlier over the next couple of generations, 14 is pushing it. A 16 year old with a 14 year old is still creepy because at that age the difference in maturity is usually quite large. 20 and 16 seems alright. Any relationship with a larger age gap with a 16 year old is probably doomed anyway.

When I was in University me and my friends found out that one of the other guys who lived in residence with us (who was 22) was dating a 15 year old.
Aside from it being gross, we always wondered what they could possibly be discussing on the phone at night. He’d be like “yeah, my loan just came in, and after tuition comes out of it, I can just barely afford food and the rest of the bills. That’s a lot on my mind while I’m trying to study for my advanced statistics final, and if I bomb that, I can forget getting that job at Stats Canada when I graduate.” And she’d be all like “My mom got mad at me because I got a bad mark in social studies. Man, adults are so mean!”
