THE MOST SHAMELESS DS RIP-OFF YET
Why is it acceptable for DS developers to literally copy Nintendo’s games? The clip-art based Animal Paradise web site is shameful enough – then the screenshots bring it down to a whole new, previously un-plumbed level of banality:
This isn’t just a bit like Nintendogs. It actually is Nintendogs. We can only hope all involved in the creation of this product walk with their heads bowed and tears welling up inside BECAUSE OF WHAT THEY HAVE DONE.
We did some research for once! It’s a Japanese game called Hana Deka Club, which licenses the work of Japanese photographer Yoneo Morita and has applied it to a Nintendogs clone. This doesn’t make its existence any less reprehensible.

Nintendo only have themselves to blame for shelf after shelf and aisle after aisle of pet/ brain “lifestyle” games for the NDS.
They don’t approve concept like Sony or MS so essentially as long as your Donkey Dung Simulator is bug-free you’re good to go! Hey why not port it to Wii while you’re at it!

Nintendogs wasn’t the first virtual pet game ever made, you know. In fact, Animal Paradise is a sequel to a game called “Pocket Dogs” which came out in Japan a year before Nintendo’s effort.
And “most shameless DS rip-off yet”? Even if you pretend no one ever made a game about dogs before Nintendogs, surely that award would go to one of the entirely dog-focused games like Dogz 2 – at least in this one they took the time to stick ducks and shit in it.

simon – I wouldn’t have it any other way. Sony’s licensing policies are (or used to be) utterly shite, in the US at least – many a good game was refused a license because it didn’t fit with whatever they wanted the PS2’s “image” to be.

ah maybe i did, its just been getting on my tits a bit recently that people have been slagging off various companies for copying ideas that (insert larger more well-known company) copied in the first place (sometimes from the very company being slagged off)

there was a really awful series of games for the PC called Dogz (and a companion, Catz) years before Nintendogs.

Even Sega did it twelve years ago with their Pet Club games for gamegear. As Inu Daisuki and Neko Daisuki

They even sold Kawashima’s Brain Training games through Sega Toys before nintendo developed anything.
