CASUALTIES OF WAR: PHIL HARRISON QUITS SONY
Global Sony games boss quits, no doubt due to lack of games on disaster machine and the general nonsense he peddled to cover his arse.
Cyanide capsule in his office, or was Goebbels booted out due to PS3’s embarrassing lack of first-party software? Who cares?! The regime is crumbling! Hirai! You’re next!
SCE Worldwide Studios President Phil Harrison Resigns
SCE Group CEO Kazuo Hirai Assumes Responsibilities
Tokyo, February 25, 2008 – Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) today announced that Phil Harrison, President of Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios (SCE WWS), will resign from Sony Computer Entertainment Group as of February 29, 2008. Kazuo Hirai, President and Group CEO of SCEI, will immediately assume responsibilities as president of SCE WWS, in addition to his current duties.
Prior to the launch of the original PlayStation, Phil Harrison joined Sony Electronics Publishing, Ltd. in 1992, which later evolved into Sony computer Entertainment Europe, and since then, he has made a tremendous contribution to the company playing a strategic role in the launch of four PlayStation platforms, as well as building strong relationships with game developers and publishers throughout the world. Since his appointment to the position of president, SCE WWS, Harrison applied his considerable skill, knowledge and expertise to lead SCE Group’s first party game development as well as aggressively pursuing the development of new online entertainment experiences.
“As one of the founding members of SCE, Phil played a key role in the development and growth of the PlayStation business and our industry,” said Kazuo Hirai. “It is sad to see him departing from SCE, but I wish to express my gratitude for his many invaluable contributions and also wish Phil the very best of luck in his future endeavors.”
“The past 15 years at Sony Computer Entertainment has been the defining journey of my life so far,” said Phil Harrison. “I am grateful to all the PlayStation family for their incredible support, guidance and friendship. It has been a privilege to serve as part of the team and be inspired by them on a daily basis. I am so proud of everything PlayStation has achieved and will continue to support its future in every way I can.”

He must have played the MGS4 demo.
February 25th, 2008 on 3:12 pm
He’s going to Atari, I’m sure with some interesting stock options for when that fails again. Good luck to him. He’ll need it.
February 25th, 2008 on 4:07 pm
Hahahahah, serves him right for lying all the time, like telling everyone that rumble wasn’t coming back or that there were over 100 Blu-ray titles out when it was less than 40, etc.
I’ve seen it suggested that this is related to his whiny bitching the other week where he claimed he invented the idea of making casual games and that Nintendo stole his idea. It’s a shame Sony didn’t release a PS2 with waggle controls, we wouldn’t have the PS3 causing confusion in the marketplace then.

15 years for a non-Japanese inside Sony’s no mean feat.
He’ll be back. Probably working for EA.
February 25th, 2008 on 4:40 pm
Where the frick did BBC get 10k sold units from? Sony, perchance?
Numbers currently stand at about 20/17/8, guess who’s in first!
I’m reckoning Sony think something along the lines of that Blu-ray has now won, thus they don’t need the PS3 anymore…

Can we get the Europe at War background back? It’s highly fitting for this incident.

Hardware is not selling : “Don’t look at me I’m the software guy”
Software turns out to be shit : “That wasen’t my idea!”
Even in resignation, he blames others.

Yes, yes. All very funny! But when Peter Moore was fired it was funny that UK:Resistance (to quote Borat) was so very, very, quiet -just like a mouse!
Come to think of it when Microsoft admitted defeat with the great Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive, UK:Resistance was… quiet like a mouse.
In fact, when Blu-ray pulvasrised the Microsoft/Toshiba alliance, UK:Resistance was quiet like… a mouse.
Nintendo Wii has quad-tripled-bonused the lifetime sales of the Xbox 360, and you sit here blogging about how you love George W. Bush/ and the Xbox 360.
What next? A post stating your firm belief that the HD-DVD add-on will help Microsoft win the format war?! Take your head out the sand!
P.S. Why don’t you ever mention how SUPER Mario helped Sonic get back to the top of the charts?
-apart from that. Keep the good work up!

Andronix writes a PS3 blog. Fancy that! http://www.playthree.net/
What you’re really missing is nobody gives a fuck about HD-DVD or Blu-Ray. Apart from Sony zealots.

Ian, I appreciate the promo. Thanks!

“We” only care about Sony losing. That doesn’t mean “we” want anyone else to win.
A world in which there are only cockroaches left in the smoking ruins of civilisation would be just fine, as long as there are no PlayStations. “We” still win in that scenario.
Like all religions, this may seem odd and impossible to explain and justify, but it’s just how it is.
Maybe I should get my teeth straightened and do a Tom Cruise parody YouTube video to explain all this?
February 26th, 2008 on 4:34 pm
I don’t know why theres bashing towards the PS3 on here, When the 360s riped off the dreamcast, more red rings of death than a gay bar, plus they have no games coming out, and just failed with an addon…
“our” religion needs reassessed.
February 26th, 2008 on 5:11 pm
This happened right after the games developers conference. I guess having all those games developers telling him what they thought of the PS3 was too much for Phil to take. Or perhaps he just didn’t want to be around when sony have to explain why paying for virtual clothes in Home is the future of gaming
February 26th, 2008 on 5:47 pm
Zed, if you don’t know why there’s so much PS3 bashing on this site then you’ve clearly missed out on the entire reason why this blog exists, you numbnut.
And as for all this hooray for Blu-ray bollocks: I’ll stick with regular DVD for now, since I can’t bring myself to fork out for an HD TV that’ll depreciate to half its value over night, and a giant enemy crab simulator thank you very much.
