SONIC RETURNS TO 2D IN "WHERE'S SONIC?"
Sensational new Sonic game takes our hero back to his 2D roots!
Sonic’s back, in his most 2D adventure yet!
“I found this book in a drawer, from Sonic’s heyday the mid 90s – Geoff.”
Thanks, Geoff! It’s awesome! Your half-hearted email totally undersold it.
Finally. The 2D Sonic we’ve been demanding.
If you have one of these, you want to get it on eBay now. Then we can buy it off you for the exorbitant ‘Buy It Now’ price of your choosing. To put with the yearbook we bought after some hero sent in scans.
And why not charge £7.99 for postage and packing, too? We’d pay it.
Genius artwork. Love it!
Must remember to do more of the GREATEST SONIC THE HEDGEHOG DESKTOP IMAGES IN THE WORLD updates, too. Still have about 120 of those to go.
Jesus Christ, Geoff. You could’ve re-taken the blurry ones. This is a Category A historical relic we’re dealing with. It needs to be archived in a full non-blurry manner for future generations.
Can’t see him. Can’t see him.
He’s not in this one. He’s DEFINITELY not in… oh. There he is.
There he is!
He’s no way in this one. There must’ve been a printing error. He’s just not here. He’s not… oh. There he is.
This is the most fun we’ve had with Sonic since the original Sonic Rush.
If you don’t include humping Sonic plush toys. That’s more fun.
Bombs everywhere! Be careful, Sonic!
Absolutely, categorically, amazing.
The end. Must have. Anonymous benefactors SCRAMBLE.

Whoever did this deserves to be called a fucking genius.

wonder if the ‘Where’s Waldo’ people know about this, hopefully a hilarious lawsuit will ensue, fun like watching 2 tramps scrap over a tin of beans.
Does anyone remember the ‘Where’s Waldo’ game on the megadrive? I believe Mean Machines awarded it about 9%. It only had about 6 levels and a crap minigame. If it was made in flash today it would be blammed from Newgrounds within 5 minutes..

P.P.A it’s a matter of perspective. Sonic Rush came at a time when all THE SHITTY SHIT STUPID SHITTY WHO THE FUCK IS THIS PINK SONIC? OH IT’S NOT A HEDGEHOG IT’S A DICK NOSE THING? AND WHY IS SONIC A DICK NOW? I DON’T CARE ABOUT YOUR FRIENDS YOU SHIT JUST RUN FAST. OH YOU CAN’T ANYMORE? AND SHADOW YOU CAN FUCK OFF TOO.
So following what felt like years of that Sonic Rush was nice. Oh and this book should totally be made into a £20 DS game. And Ubisoft should probably make it. And call it Wherez Sonicz.

Awesome. I want one.
But… fun? With Sonic Rush? I bought this filthy piece of software a few weeks back and was utterly disgusted by how it spit into the face of everything that made Sonic great in the first place. Ditching old standards such as large, explorable levels with many routes, the satisfaction of actually achieving speed by yourself (and not via crappy boost moves or speed pads everywhere) amongst other things for horribly designed, linear, nearly on-rails levels, useless moves and just as pointless as embarrassing dialogues, screwed up physics (you no longer accelerate when rolling down hills) and numerous other major flaws, it’s a dull, ugly, soulless roller-coaster ride that doesn’t even deserve to carry the name of “Sonic” (just like a lot of other recent games starring the blue hedgehog, unfortunately…).

I have the Sonic Adventure Gamebooks #1 and #2. I always wanted #3 and #4 but could never find them in the shops.
April 21st, 2008 on 4:36 pm
Haha, I’ve got one of these aswell.
Unfortunately it’s in London and I am not, so selling it is out of the question. That, and I don’t think I could part with something so unabashedly awesome.

I have one of these back home. They did a sequel to this book too, the appropriately named ‘Where’s Sonic Now?’ It contained more Sonic 3 and Sonic & Knuckles styled artwork as it came out around the same time as the games.
April 21st, 2008 on 5:29 pm
You have a point there, cunzy11. Compared to Shadow which came out the same time this is undoubtedly the better one of the two.
…maybe SEGA only released Shadow to make Rush look good?
Also wow, I just noticed the pun in this update’s title. Awesome.

I just got the megadrive collection on psp, problem solved. Sonic 1 & 2 – I can’t ask for more than that (don’t like Sonic 3 or S&K, see. And even if I did, they’re just a few roms away…)
None of these ‘which Sonic game is marginally less shit than the other shit Sonics’ arguments. I’ve even heard half-decent things said about the Shadow the Hedgehog game ffs, if that isn’t scraping the bottom of the barrel, I dunno what is.
You lot can keep your Sonic Rush. I played it way back when and thought it was crap. I preferred Sonic when the only emotion you could get out of him was to stand him at the edge of a platform and watch him wave his arms like a big spaz. Nowadays you can’t shut the little blue bugger up :(
Of course, if you genuinely DO like Sonic Rush in spite of the alternative crap Sonic games, then that’s just fine.
But as long as I have the means to play the old Sonic games, I couldn’t give two shits which direction they take Sonic nowadays. They can stick him up Yu Suzuki’s arse if they wanted to. Maybe they’ll find Shenmue 3 up there.
P.S. I got a little Sonic book from Japan for about 500Yen or some equally rip-off price. It’s quite nifty and has the layouts for all the stages so you can see where the rings are, but not a patch on this Where’s Sonic gem.
*looks for Sonic*

High quality scans and a bit of retouching would produce nice wallpaper background images.
April 21st, 2008 on 6:22 pm
lol never mind trying to find sonic, imagine trying to find all the bloody icons :)
April 21st, 2008 on 8:58 pm
Argh, I had gamebook #1, but I’m sure my parents will have cleared it out with a load of old books as they used to so love to do.
Drat.
April 21st, 2008 on 9:47 pm
I have a different one of these somehwere at home. Cept you had to find different characters in each level and it seemed more difficult than this one.

Sonic Rush was NOT a bad game. It was just a bad SONIC game.
As such, even IF Sonic Unleashed turns out to be not a complete stinking turd, it’s still going to lack the awesome, chequer-block style of the original games. I don’t want to go to fucking Greece, I want my Green Hill Zone. If I wanted to see Greece, that’s what Google Image Search is for. Aside from looking up “tentacle porn tits.”
And what’s with the boring, generic robot designs in Sonic games these days? This book is filled to the brim with Buzzbombers, Crabmeats and Coconuts. Y’know, the ones that you’d dispatch in a puff of smoke, and then follow the stupid bouncing rabbit or penguin until it lemminged into a pool of lava or something.
April 22nd, 2008 on 1:52 am
Some of these scans are so blurry I can barely find Sonic. Picture 7, this means you.
SORT IT OUT.

Items: £0.02
Postage & Packing: £13.88
Exchange rate: $22.11
Most expensive penny item I’ll ever buy. The U.S. Amazon.com site has it for $40, so it still works out cheaper for my Sonic books to waste more gas getting to me.

Wait… A bad Sonic Game but isn’t a bad game? Lets look at the history of Sonic games… Most of them are bad (and personally i do exclude Rush from that). So a bad bad game. I guess in your world two negatives do make a positive.
I’d definitely drop a few bucks on it. Like 10$ max. Even though I have sonic Blue walls and about 3 posters of sonic up and a 6′ Tall standee from Sonic Adventure 2. Somehow i’m hesitant to buy that. Even though the artwork is absolutely amazing and celebrates the BEST sonic game levels.
April 22nd, 2008 on 5:36 am
Haha, I have this book, as well as the sequel “Where’s Sonic NOW?”
Actually… I have the entire collection of Sonic Ladybird books from back in the day. Yipe.
I have the colouring book but I.. well, coloured it in :(
PS. Sonic Rush and Sonic Rush Adventure are fantastic games, you vagabonds!
April 22nd, 2008 on 6:21 am
got it. also got one that was much more where’s waldoesque what with scenes filled with characters and many comical mini stories occuring within each picture. it was based off of the archie comic/saturday morning cartoon world, though.
did…did bryan just claim that most sonic games were bad?
oh i get it. i get jokes.
-koval-
p.s. what’s with you brits changing it to “where’s WALLY?”
April 22nd, 2008 on 8:56 am
au contraire, my ignorant colonial chum, YOU lot changed it because you didn’t get the joke implied by the name

I LOVED these books as a kid!! I’ve got all the other ones too heheh. Good memories of going to the library and picking out the books you didn’t have to read :D
April 22nd, 2008 on 2:43 pm
What the fuck?
It’s a book for children. That happens to have Sonic on. A Sonic that’s spouting horrendously forced ‘hip’ language. An unashamed ripoff of Where’s Wally. Grown men should not get excited about this kind of thing.
So why did I just fucking buy one? I CAN’T AFFORD NEXT MONTH’S RENT.
Fuck you guys.
April 22nd, 2008 on 10:03 pm
Wow! That looks ace.
April 23rd, 2008 on 12:02 pm
Look at the back cover page.
Okay, I’ve got two of the Aventure Gambooks (not to be confused with this: http://www.gamebooks.org/show_series.php?id=287 , an entirely different series), one of the puzzlebooks, Sonic the Story (an origin book, similar to the Fleetway comic origin/Stay Sonic/That one in Disney magazine), Robotnik’s Oil (short story).
That leaves one puzzle book, The Invisible Robotnik and the Colouring Poster book.
