SONIC & SEGA ALL-STARS RACING *STILL* DOESN’T LOOK BAD
Keep watching movies of this, expecting it to eventually look terrible. But it keeps on looking more than OK. Bordering on the good, in fact.
Definite month-long mega update potential.

At least you’re not complaining that (surprisingly in a racing game!) Sonic drives a car :)

Well, desperate times and all that…
In all honesty I agree though. The driving physics look like they could be quite entertaining and it’s actual quite pretty. Plenty of blue skies :)

Now now, lets not all get our hopes up. Still perfectly easy for it to be utterly ballsed up by woeful ai, repetetive and dull level design and arse-backward controls.
Coming out for wii, is it?
August 20th, 2009 on 1:27 pm
I love the Sega style music. :/
Honestly, do you think Nintendo would EVER put out such a generic trailer with generic royalty free music slapped on it for a game featuring one of their top characters?
Sega really don’t give a fuck what happens any more do they? A pathological lack of care and attention. They could be ruling the game world even without their own console but they have some real artless shitheads in charge.
It is genuinely upsetting to see the potential for such greatness whored out into nothingness.

Gasp! That tune is by the one and only Sir Richard Jacques. Get to the back of the class, face the wall and think about what you’ve just done!

@GigerPunk: It’s probably coming out for every console under the sun, but the Wii/PS2 versions of games are normally created on completely different development cycles due to both consoles being about as powerful as the average mobile phone.
It IS a Sumo game though, and it seems to me that they care more about upholding the Sega brand than Sega themselves can be arsed to.
August 20th, 2009 on 1:41 pm
Wow, what a rip-off. I mean, I’m sure I’m not the only one that’s noticed?
It’s exactly like Lula: Virtual Babe.
August 20th, 2009 on 2:41 pm
Everybody’s supersonic racing… almost.
August 20th, 2009 on 2:54 pm
Alex Kidd on his bike, that’s just pure WIN!
August 20th, 2009 on 2:58 pm
They missed out one potential tagline: “Go from first to last, seconds before the finishing line, because the weapons are all too powerful and easy to use”
August 20th, 2009 on 2:59 pm
If Sumo do a really piss-poor job of the PS3 and PS2 versions then I will be nearly ready to forgive them for making GTI Club+ a PSN exclusive. Nearly.
Did I see a cockerel driving one of those cars? Is that one of the many extra characters Sega added to the Sonic “universe” after I stopped caring? Sumo should replace the cockerel with Ryo from Shenmue.
August 20th, 2009 on 3:39 pm
Nooo! Keep the cockerel! That’s Billy Hatcher!
Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg – Cack game, would’ve been great but ruined by bloody awkward controls. Almost saved by the bloody brilliant title music though…anyone care to find out who wrote it? I can’t wait til I get home to find out now…

this sonic racing shenanigans might end up being a good game, but it doesn’t change the fact that sega is working on THIS and not porting VF5R or localizing yakuza 3 or a whole plethora of things they SHOULD BE doing instead of THIS
August 20th, 2009 on 11:04 pm
I think I may have overreacted earlier by a severe amount.
Sorry to all the artless shitheads that work for Sega.
August 20th, 2009 on 11:08 pm
No Ulala?
August 20th, 2009 on 11:41 pm
Well the only way sega could fuck up more is to make this a ps3 exclusive.

Initially, I was sceptical about a cynical and creatively bankrupt Sega version of Mario Kart but having seen Alex Kidd wizz about on his little motorbike, I couldn’t give a toss anymore. To see that would be worth the price alone.
Sega rarely spoil us with this kind of lovely fanservice.

Sega rearly spoil us with decent games. Last brilliant sega gave I’ve played was beach spikers on the gcn. Brilliant

Is Cream in this guys?…I hope so!
August 21st, 2009 on 9:18 am
Bollocks: Billy Hatcher is in it = I must buy it. Im getting to old to buy games this happy though. People look at me funny when I buy anything with even a hint of a colour palette :(

Hopefully that’s not going to be the only levels – I count only 3, maybe 4 styles of level in that vid:
1. Jungle/Tropical/Beach world
2. Ice world (with brick road and wooden scaffolding, possibly encompassing rickety mineshaft area?)
3. Casino/Big city, Vegas style
4. (or 3.2) Desert/Canyons – possibly just outskirts of vegas casino level?
I mean come on, no space, medieval or underwater worlds? If you’re just going to follow the usual stereotypical level designs, at least do them all (unless they’re being held back for All-Stars racing 2?)
Even Lego Racers 2 showed more imagination than this…

I think that tagline should read – “Go from first to last, seconds before the finishing line. Then just stop making consoles all together.”
August 23rd, 2009 on 4:27 am
No Gilius Thunderhead?
Epic fail!
August 24th, 2009 on 10:23 pm
There surely must be a fire/lava world. I would also expect a haunted house/castle world, one wheel of your cart/motorobike/cockerel dangerously flirting with Nintendo copyright infringement.
August 24th, 2009 on 10:25 pm
Ooh! Well spotted! Can’t imagine how I missed those out…any more for any more?
August 24th, 2009 on 10:54 pm
Robot/machine world. That’s my secret idea I’m keeping for later, when we run out of ideas. Don’t tell.
August 25th, 2009 on 3:16 am
I’m hoping there’s an Egyptian-themed level.
Those are always fun and predictable.
