AFTERBURNER CLIMAX!
Coming to both “big” consoles via their online shops, soon. Screenshots here (three days ago).
We’re considering Afterburner Climax the final death-twitch of SEGA Japan. What’s left to come that’s good after this?

Might I remind all you cunts that last year Sega released Phantasy Star Zero on the DS. It plays like a slightly simplified version of the Dreamcast release.
Don’t ask me about the story though, as I just keep pressing the ‘skip text’ button anytime someone says something.

The skies… so blue…

That looks bloody mental, and blue skies galore too. Suppose I ought to fire up the 360 then to see if there’s a demo on xbla. Better bloody had be, after getting my hopes up like this.
(I’d say there’d better be a demo out for me to have to turn the 360 on for the first time since xmas and Beatles rock band but I waas bored last night and bored myself some more with the demo of banjo/kazooie. I built a poorly flying (and rather fragile) bulldozer before the ennui was overpowering (and I realised I was missing Newswipe).)

“What’s left to come that’s good after this?”
The sweet, cold, welcome embrace of death?

I know it is sacrilegious to say, but I never liked the original After Burner, seemed more like a random explosion fest than a real game.
I have also seen ABC in the flesh on more than one occasion and wasn’t impressed either. It is another random, dip and swooshy type game where you never really feel in control. Lots of stuff happens and you aren’t convinced you had any part in it.
But then I am a professional spoil sport. There should definitely be a demo at some point, I think it is a requirement of all Live! games.

I agree with Police Constable London. We’re all grown ups, now, some of us even have senile urine leaking problems. So it’s now time to admit that Afterburner was not a game for a start.
Just a paying demo of their sprite zooming engine. Like Thunderblade, Space Harrier, Galaxy Force, Rad Mobile, G-Lock.
The only real game was Outrun. And Powerdrift, to a certain extent.
For Sega in 2010, for… Ps3 owners >.< : Yakuza 3. Just like Shenmue, but without having to look for sailors. You just punch them. Story is very bad, but you don't care, as long as you can court hostesses.

Rail Chase was a pretty good sprite scaling game. Rad Mobile got by because it had Sonic and windscreen wipers.
Afterburner would have been alright if it had a sensible number of stages. Maybe 6 or 7 would have been perfect for the arcade. Instead it had 23, which is just overkill when all you want to do is have a ride in its hydraulic cabinet.

Arse. No demo available yet then. So I downloaded the Bayonetta demo instead to see if it was any more than Devil May Cry/God of War with a pert arse and, well, to steal Police Constable London’s words from up above:
“It is another random, dip and swooshy type game where you never really feel in control. Lots of stuff happens and you aren’t convinced you had any part in it.”
So, pretty much as I expected really. Pretty n’all and with a story that makes no bloody sense whatsoever but just another button masher otherwise. Fun how all the gold rings Golden angel halos you have to collect bounce around just like Sonic’s rings do did…
Then remembered I’d been meaning to check out Detonator X and enjoyed that so much I splashed out the whole 80 points required to get the full version. Lvl 18 so far. Much more fun.
Gong back to the point (i.e. ABC), I’ve never played ABC, just the original. Looks very pretty though, I’m hoping it’s more like Afterburner crossed with Rez, or is that hoping too much? Still, even if it’s just like the original with updated graphics, imagine how much fun you found the original with it’s graphics back then? Maybe this’ll be enough to take us back to that again?
Shit, think there may be something wrong with me, I appear to be feeling uncharacteristically optimistic. That’s not right…

What? No climax jokes?
January 21st, 2010 on 2:14 pm
Not from me, not after playing the Bayonetta demo, all potential climax jokes done to death already. Anyone else want to try?

Since I’ve been boycotting all non-Sega consoles since the PS2 was released I have no choice but to save up $10,000 dollars and buy the arcade cabinet of this.
After I get it I will invite all of you over for a go on it. Floppy Lobster gets first try though since he has the most creative screen name.

I often get an After Climax Burner. Pass the lotion.

And there I was last night thinking about suggesting to Mr. Constable London that Afterburner really was a great game, but only when played in the full arcade cabinet. But then I got depressed thinking about the futility of trying to change people’s opinions, and of stating your own, over the internet. But now I feel reenergized. So thank you Coolinator, I’d love to get in there before the seat gets dirty. But if we’re choosing on names then I feel Gonuts McDie might be more deserving, however, I’ll take any hint of (possibly sarcastic) kindness I can find on the internet. It could just be the rum talking but maybe I’ll go outside today.
