RANDOM PHOTO FROM THE PAST: DONINGTON, 1993
Got sent this. There’s a low-res version of it on the internet, but here it is all proper. It is from SEGA’s glory fortnight, back in 1993, when it sponsored the (a) Formula One (event).
And that was when people watched Formula One, and when Ayrton Senna was the best. Happy days.
“The SEGA Europe marketing budget for 1991-1997 got all spent in, well, 1993. In Donington” – F.

Well, that didn’t work.
Here, have a link instead

Ayrton Sega.

I’m sure it was all put to good use as research for Virtua Racing.

1993 was the year I got my first hand job, which reminded of playing Sonic for the first time…too fast and not enough control.
That really is all for now.

A typo! “which reminded me of”.
But now “me of” sounds wrong. Oh correct me, grade me, make me write right!

Ahh, those were the days. Remember when Williams were sponsored by Sega, and every time Mclaren won a race they’d paint a squashed hedgehog on the side of the car?
February 16th, 2010 on 3:16 pm
I must say that’s very impressive. There is Sega’s logo all over the dam place. Good Job 1993 Sega….Good Job…
(gets in time machine goes into the present)
……Anyone else getting Aliens Vs Predator? Looks lovely.

Come off it! Formula 1 is currently as interesting as it’s been for years! (Not saying much, I know).
Next year we’ll get to hear all of Jensen’s excuses for not being as fast as Lewis, the worlds most boring man has decided to go rallying instead, and the Scuminator is back! Driving a Merc! It doesn’t get more teutonic than that, it’s practically the forth Reich. The only way it could be more ominous is if he were drving an 890bhp Dalek with slicks and a defuser.
February 17th, 2010 on 9:57 am
I barely followed even half of that, Badben, but (being a Dr Who fan) I woke up enough at the end when you mentioned Dalek. I’d be interested in F1 Daleks racing round a track, exterminating competitors. In my mind that’s what Robot wars should have been like. (and yes, I’m fully aware Daleks aren’t robots before anyone cares to point it out)
Anyway, slicks and defusers? Sounds like stuff you’d find at a hairdresser’s.
February 17th, 2010 on 10:48 am
It’s usually the bomb squad that have defusers… ;)

hmmm the warehouse goblins at Zavvi have seen fit to send me AvP ahead of Fridays release date.
For once…happy days! Although I’m pretty sure within 2 hours I’ll be bored…

Ah shite. Diffusers.
I DO know what I’m talking about, but unfortunately I’m also a moron.
Zorg’s / Idiot’s sites are great, but the general literacy of the whole shebang is consistently intimidating to an old engineer like me. My literacy, such as it is, is based on reading three thousand sci-fi novels between the ages of 10 and 22. It’s not a very rigorous education, alas

Speaking of morons, I bought a PSP Go just because it was “cheap”. I regret it now, not only because I’ve actually given money to the great evil of our time, but also because for an internet only device it doesn’t charge when plugged into the computer. It doesn’t support WPA2 either so it can’t download games while plugged into the wall.
So well done, Sony, more half-arsed design all round. They don’t even stick a slipcase in the box…

where’s today’s update ?!
February 17th, 2010 on 4:48 pm
AvP is getting a bit of a slating from certain review sites for being stuck in the past…it’s being published by Sega, what do they expect!
I apologise for talking about games..tomorrow I shall talk only of cuntstacks.

Updates are a bit haywire as I’ve been away on a trip and staying in the house of a casual gamer.
I have just witnessed a 50″ 1080p plasma connected to a PS3 via a composite cable rammed into a SCART block :(
I thought people like that only existed in our imaginations.
February 17th, 2010 on 9:07 pm
I’ve heard that’s the best way to get around the lack of anti-aliasing in all PS3 games.
February 17th, 2010 on 11:56 pm
Did they volunteer that connection info themselves or did you go hunting round the back of their set to check?
I’m thinking the latter.
Do people still call tv’s ‘sets’ or am I horribly out of step yet again? I’m still reeling from wireless not meaning radio anymore.
February 18th, 2010 on 12:47 am
Zorg, a photo of that guy’s config would have made a fabulous update.
Ryo’s figurine is ok.

I looked round the back. I knew exactly what was going to be there. Modern Warfare 2 was in the slot, and he hadn’t even bothered downloading the Home installer.
The next day I went to Currys to buy him an HDMI cable out of pity, as I’ve never seen a PS3 running on a 1080p TV, only to be greeted by an £84.99 Belkin HDMI cable. £84.99 for a cable. They also had a £74.99 one and the cheapest option was £24.99.
Would anyone be up for a war on the evil Currys/Belkin axis?
February 18th, 2010 on 11:02 am
I’ve always been at war with Currys…A war of attrition, a war with no boundaries, a war that makes men question their existence, their very essence of being.
I once lobbed a bag full of dog turds into a Currys shop once, that’s no joke.
February 18th, 2010 on 12:01 pm
Yup, I’m all for turning my own little one-man war against Currys/Comet/Dixons et al into a full blown assault alongside the rest of the UK:R army.
Have always hated the places for being full of unbelievably overpriced shit sold by slimy hateful idiotic wankers. Amazed they’re still going to be honest. Guess there’s still enough idiots around that will believe what these salespeople say and will gladly pay these idiotic prices.
Belkin cables however, I’ve generally found to be quite well made, but then I don’t think I’ve ever actually bought one, more kinda found. Certainly wouldn’t consider that reasonable price though.
£7.99 at 7dayshop for a 10m one for a start.
