SONIC 4 HAS A WEB SITE
The official Sonic 4 site is dripping with timers, as the SEGA of today loves doing that endless teasing thing to get children and teenagers who don’t know any better excited. There’s a trailer featuring literally ZERO gameplay footage up there at the moment.
And the plot is also revealed. You’ll never guess what’s happened.
We will be spending all of today making a video in which Hitler expresses his anger that Cream The Rabbit is not a playable character in Sonic 4. Can no one else have or do that idea, please? Thanks. What tool do people use for doing the subtitles?

Episodic? Bah. So, if that’s anything like Valve and Half life 2, it’ll be good but each episode will be really short and released years apart.
How long have I been waiting for HL2:EP3 (QPR1 (sorry)) ?
Also, Sonic “heads off to explore a new territory on his own”. What type of new territory are we talking here? Jungle/Forest? Ice? Lava? Factory/Technological? The Aylesham centre in Peckham?
Oh, and for subtitles, have you thought of maybe a dymo labeller?
February 4th, 2010 on 10:53 am
I can’t wait to play it on my ???, I’ve had my ??? for a couple of years now and haven’t really had many games to play on my ???.
Why is everything always a f*cking countdown
February 4th, 2010 on 11:13 am
Hopefully ??? is Steam. Because I refuse on ethical grounds to put any money into Xbox Live.
Maybe Sonic 4 is Sonic CD and no one will notice as no one has apart from Zorg has ever played it.

Forgive my broken English, I’m in a rush and should have started my real life about an hour ago.

Please, please, please do the Hitler subs. I stopped watching those Hitler vids after the first few and something like this would be fantastic.
As for programs, try Subtitle Workshop if you’re using Windows, or Jubler if you’re on OSX.
Once you’ve got your subs, you can use something like Virtual Dub to make a video with the subs built in.
If you’re in a rush, you could probably just use Windows Movie Maker and type the subs in that way. I did that for one of my videos and I don’t remember it being a hassle to do.
Youtube lets you add subs now, too, so you could try that.

When I saw this and that it was proper 2D, I did a little sex-wee.
Then I saw “episode 1” and and had to flog myself and burn my clothes.
If Sega fuck this up, I might have to dismantle my shrine.
February 4th, 2010 on 11:56 am
I’ve got a bit of proper work to do, then I’ve got to go and fix my mum’s computer, then maybe I’ll work out how to do subtitles. There’s no obvious “Subtitles” option in Windows Movie Maker, so it might end up being too much hassle.
I just wanted to bagsie the idea.
February 4th, 2010 on 12:47 pm
I usually use indelible black markers to do subtitles. This does mean I’m stuck with the words “I’ve had a change of heart, start gassing the Sony executives first” scrawled at the bottom of my monitor, but the memories of seeing Hitler saying it are worth it.

“Maybe Sonic 4 is Sonic CD and no one will notice as no one has apart from Zorg has ever played it.”
Yeah, just him and the thousands of us who bought it new back in 1993.
God damn post 1999 dreamcast-glory-supporter-johnny-come-latelys!

??? Better equal Dreamcast 2. Or at least 32X. Ive only ever played Metal Head, VF and Chaotix on it and my want my moneys worth at some point.
£179.99 I forced my mum to pay for that! And it was only last week, too.

Good news BUT, I won’t be 100 percent happy that this is “Sonic 4” until they call Dr Eggman Dr Robotnik again. Sonic also better be fighting Badniks. Otherwise, this isn’t the real Sonic 4 but a pretend Sonic 4.
I’m also hoping that the other character is a classic from the MD era and not another new shit one for the furries to get excited about.

It looks nice and all…not the crappy website….. the 3 seconds of gameplay but Sonic doesn’t have the running animation where his legs look like the RoadRunners in those old cartoons. What’s the deal?
He kind of looks like he’s plodding along like a oaf.
An Oaf I tell ya’…….hmph!
February 4th, 2010 on 7:59 pm
Looks like it’s going to turn out really well

Dr Eggman has never been called Dr Robotnik except in the Sonic the Hedgehog instruction manuals. In Japan he has always been called Eggman – it’s just the westernised games where he was called Robotnik like Mean Bean Machine…and that’s it.
Oh and I don’t want to sound like I’m one of those Japan-does-everything-better nerds. I honestly don’t care what he’s called because they never reference his name in any of the 2D titles anyway. We may as well just imagine his name is Stephen.
February 4th, 2010 on 9:07 pm
*Sigh*
So What?
He’s called Dr Robotnik in the west and that’s what I fucking want to call him. OK? Because it’s a better name. He will always be called Dr Robotnik to me. Besides, the Mega Drive flopped in Japan and the west made Sonic popular so who cares what he was originally called in Japan?

@ Zorg:
Go to the Tools menu, then click ‘Titles and Credits’, and then from the list that appears, choose the third one – ‘title over the video’ or something like that – and you can make a subtitle. Then just move it about or drag it to change the time length, rinse and repeat. I imagine it’d be easier to just copy and paste the first subtitle you do along that timeline so you don’t have to keep setting the font, etc.
I realise that I’ve probably made it sound like too much effort already. I was worried going down the WMM route would cause that, but I figured we’d start with what you’re used to.
In my opinion, I reckon you could learn to use any other video program in the entire world and finish the subs more quickly than it would take to manually put subs in using WMM.
@ marimo: Totally agree. Robotnik’s his name. Dr. Eggman is typical of the lame-o Japanese naming strategy. “Oh, he looks like an egg, and he’s a white guy, so we’ll call him Dr. Eggman.” If he was a Japanese guy, they’d probably call him Dr. Takahashi

I hope Sonic and Stephen both have full voice actors to tell their story in high detail FMV at the end of every level. I feel that the last few sonics have been good in their story telling, but I want longer, more detailed FMV…even midway through a level would be fine. I wonder what Stephen’s childhood was like? Maybe we will finally find out.
February 4th, 2010 on 10:24 pm
Both Robotnik and Morrissey dropped the Stephen from their names. Coincidence?
February 4th, 2010 on 10:36 pm
Through the mixture of fonts it’s hard to tell but I think the game’s called ‘Sonic 4 the Hedgehog’. It could be txtspeak announcing a new Sonic dating sim.
February 5th, 2010 on 12:49 am
@ marimo – well that’s the point, you can call Stephen what the hell you want. If it’s like the first games, they wont even reference his fake Japanese name at all.
February 5th, 2010 on 1:24 am
What this game needs to make it a truly great Sonic title.
1) Lots of bottomless pits you can’t see until it’s too late.
2) A heavy metal soundtrack. With words.
3) A camera that doesn’t keep up with the action, even in 2D.
4) A heavy-hitting story.
5) An unskippable tutorial level.
6) A driving section.
Nail those and they’ve got themselves a classic.
February 5th, 2010 on 10:49 am
wahwahwahwah – you missed 7) “Press button X to not die events” – they rock!
February 5th, 2010 on 10:51 am
8 minutes till one of the timers expires!!!!!!!!
I’ve already urinated myself twice with excitement.
February 5th, 2010 on 11:08 am
An intro that witters on about Dr. Eggman this, Dr. Eggman that…
Bah, is that it?
Was that really worth hanging around for 8 more minutes?
February 5th, 2010 on 3:56 pm
I prefer him to be called Dr. Robotnik. Makes more sense since he makes robots, flys around in robots, and attacks Sonic with robotic animals.
The name Eggman sounds like the Sega marketing department had too many Saki-Bombs the night before and had to submit a name to their superiors by noon.
“He’s shaped like an Egg….let’s call him EGG-MAN”
“BRILLIANT!!!!111”
February 5th, 2010 on 5:09 pm
That backstory is quite possibly the most poorly written thing in Sega’s history, and that’s saying something.
‘nuckles steals the Chaos emeralds from Sonic, being tricked by Eggman that he is an enemy come to take the Master Emerald. While Sonic and Tails are entangled by Knuckles, Eggman repairs the Death Egg and preps it for launch.’
And yes, the K is actually missing.
I have a horrible feeling this is going to be some low budget, externally developed, overly focus-grouped knock off.
Please let me be wrong.
February 5th, 2010 on 5:12 pm
More classic cuts:
‘fter and Epic showdown between Sonic and Knuckles’
‘now this mysterious island are dropping down to the ocean surface because the Death Egg had been falling on this island. ‘
‘tory thus far:
‘It began as Sonic’s animal friends begin disappearing from South Island’
Jesus Christ, does the person typing this not READ IT?
February 5th, 2010 on 6:55 pm
That story is unbelievable. It’s like ironic fan fiction, complete with intentional typos.
February 5th, 2010 on 10:41 pm
To be honest, the story in the Sonic The Hedgehog Manual is no literary masterpiece, either. I know, I’ve just read it. It also contains the line “Be Sonic, be atomic”. You can’t get much worse than that.
I mean, it is 2010 and thus not really acceptable to shit out a paragraph of any old shit and call it a “story” any more, so maybe it’s intentional? Like Sega are making us feel a home with a poorly written intro to the mostly irrelevant/non existant plot.
February 5th, 2010 on 10:52 pm
I also want to point out that the spelling mistake in my last post was intentional, included in the hope that Sega might see it and consider me as a writer for any future Sonic websites it decides to launch. Because I really need a job.
February 6th, 2010 on 1:41 am
Dr. Kintober shouldn’t be consigned to Western gaming history. The poor man has to live as the fat, angry Robotnik for god’s sake. It can’t get much worse for him.
February 6th, 2010 on 1:42 am
Typo’d on the poor man’s name. It got worse!
