Connecting Derby update 21 July

As Derby City Council’s Connecting Derby project moves towards completion, Lara Croft Way will become fully operational from Tuesday 27 July.

The road has been built as part of the Council’s Connecting Derby project that began in 2001. The Inner Ring Road is due to be completed at the start of 2011.

The completion of Lara Croft Way, the new road between Osmaston Road to the junction of Burton Road and Normanton Road, will allow drivers to access Burton Road, Babington Lane and Normanton Road via the new roundabout.

Charnwood Street will be closed permanently to motor vehicles at its junction with Osmaston Road from 27 July.

The following roads will become two-way; Burton Road between Mount Street and the new roundabout, Normanton Road between Melbourne Street and the new roundabout, Mill Hill Lane between Normanton Road and Mount Street and Mount Street between Mill Hill Lane and Centenary House.

Driving from Osmaston Road and Bradshaw Way

Drivers wanting access to Normanton Road will have to drive along Lara Croft Way and take the first exit off the new roundabout leading on to Normanton Road.

Drivers wanting access to Charnwood Street will have to drive along Lara Croft Way, take the first exit off the new roundabout on to Normanton Road, and turn left in to Leopold Street and then right in to The Avenue leading on to Charnwood Street.

Drivers wanting access to Mill Hill Lane will have to drive along Lara Croft Way, take the first exit off the new roundabout on to Normanton Road, and turn right leading on to Mill Hill Lane.

Drivers wanting access to Mount Street will have to drive along Lara Croft Way, take the first exit off the new roundabout on to Normanton Road, and turn right on to Mill Hill Lane and turn right on to Mount Street.

Drivers wanting to access Burton Road will have to drive along Lara Croft Way and take the second exit off the new roundabout leading on to Burton Road.

Drivers wanting to access Babington Lane will have to drive along Lara Croft Way and take the fourth exit off the new roundabout leading on to Babington Lane.

Driving from Normanton Road

Drivers wanting access to Burton Road will have to drive past Mill Hill Lane to the new roundabout along Normanton Road and take the first exit on to Burton Road.

Drivers wanting access to Babington Lane will have to drive past Mill Hill Lane to the new roundabout along Normanton Road and take the third exit off the roundabout on to Babington Lane.

Drivers wanting access to Bradshaw Way and Osmaston Road will have to drive past Mill Hill Lane to the new roundabout and take the fourth exit off the roundabout on to Lara Croft Way leading on to Osmaston Road or Bradshaw Way via the roundabout.

Driving from Green Lane

Drivers wanting access to Burton Road will have to drive towards the new roundabout and take the third exit on to Burton Road.

Access to all other routes from Green Lane will remain the same.

Driving from Burton Road

Routes into the City from Burton Road have not changed.

Driving from Mill Hill Lane

Drivers who want to access Babington Lane will have to drive to Normanton Road past Mount Street, turn left on to Normanton Road and take the third exit off the roundabout on to Babington Lane.

Drivers who want to access Bradshaw Way and Osmaston Road will have to drive to Normanton Road past Mount Street, turn left on to Normanton Road and take the fourth exit off the roundabout on to Lara Croft Way leading to Osmaston Road or Bradshaw Way via the roundabout.

Driving from Mount Street

Drivers wanting access to Babington Lane will have to drive to Mill Hill Lane and turn left on to Mill Hill Lane then turn left on to Normanton Road and take the third exit off the roundabout on to Babington Lane.

Drivers wanting access to Bradshaw Way and Osmaston Road will be as above but taking the fourth exit off the roundabout on to Lara Croft Way leading on to Osmaston Road or Bradshaw Way via the roundabout.

Mount Street will be temporarily closed on 27 July for approximately 8 weeks at its junction with Burton Road to allow construction of the new junction layout. When completed Mount Street will become two-way between Mill Hill Lane and Centenary House and one-way thereafter up to Burton Road, traffic on to Burton Road from Mount Street will be left only.
