“THE SEGA MEGA DRIVE’S MODEM HAS HIT THE STREETS”
“Naturally the games have to be modem compatible, and obviously you can’t use it in Britain at the moment” – classic WE HAVE NO NEW CONTENT import coverage of a SEGA product.
We do miss eight-page features on Japanese games you can’t buy or understand.
“Here’s a quick head tip to the Sega Modem from Raze 1991. At least the reviewer knew the real possibilities of the hardware rather than the fantasy that we all believed it would be. My scanner refuses to scan at more than 72dpi at the moment but let me know if you want a better scan and I’ll take it in to the office” – You Likee.

Did anyone own a PC Engine “back then”? I remember the games mags were very keen on giving it plenty of coverage but I never knew anyone who wanted one let alone owned one.
I’ve since bought one off eBay just so I can pretend to have retro cred. The OutRun, Afterburner, Power Drift and Space Harrier ports were all pretty good. And Street Fighter II wins some points for being easy enough for me to beat.

I owned one, and it was brillant (I had a Megadrive and a Super Famicom too).
I spent hours with Super Star Soldier, Soldier Blade & Final Soldier, and Parasol Stars one of the best plate-former ever.
The only real bottleneck was the low capacity of the HU Cards, meaning that arcade ports that could have been near perfect were missing stages, or features.
Had I kept it, I could have traded it for a first rate mail order bride, I think.
