THE SONIC FAN REMIX DEMO IS OUT
Feels very wrong playing a 2D Sonic game on a PC, as PCs are usually associated with MISERY and SHOULDER/NECK PAIN and WORK. But it’s out and you can get it here.
It’s a bit weird, but works. It’s nice watching Sonic standing there while the flowers and butterflies bounce around, if that’s not too gay a way for you to spend a Thursday.

The flowers and butterflies always bounce around my office…always.

That’s really rather nice, considering I was playing it at 640×480 with no sound. Shall have to try it on my media centre box rather than my antiquated Athlon XP shuttle

Flowers and butterflies aren’t gay. You’re getting the wonders of the natural world confused with homosexual activity.

Played it. Feels just like Sonic, doesn’t have weird momentum problems like Sonic 4. Looks roughly infinitely better than Sonic 4.
Only problem is it retains the ‘classic’ Sonic gameplay where you don’t know why you’re doing anything and there is no incentive to do anything. Is finding an alternate loop or spring really that exciting? All leads to the same place and all you do is collect rings that can be found anywhere. I found it fun when I was 12.
Nostalgia is a bad thing. Just look at Kotaku where every second post is about Star Wars or Lego.

I wish I could give the money I spent on Sonic 4 to these guys, it’s infinitely better even though it’s only 3 levels long.

Works much better on media centre box, apart from when it crashed and red-screened (just completely frozen up on a totally red screen) on me. Possibly not the game’s fault though.
Am I completely bloody useless at Sonic (as I suspect) or are there no powerups of any kind in it? Found a bouncepad up a tree but no TV’s anywhere…

I was a little harsh earlier, I need to stop being such a cunt, especially when there are no jokes and only cuntishness. I put it down to my deep dissatisfaction with life.
It’s Sonic and it is very good at being Sonic. If you like Sonic then it’s great and it bodes very well for the final product, if it gets finished. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that demo is the sum total of development, but I hope I’m wrong even if I’m not hugely interested.
With that said, Super Meat Boy, which I have been pimping here for a few months is finally out and getting amazing reviews from literally everywhere. I must wait for the PC version though which comes out next month.
Oh yes, a strange bug with that Sonic demo. When it is windowed, the screen is upside down for me. Not a big problem since I deleted it.

It’s really quite good, isn’t it? Almost excitingly good. I thought I was past getting excited about games, but this has managed it. This proves to me that it’s not just me getting old, modern games are actually no fun at all to play.. No more gangs in games!

That was a fun wargame video.
