THIS IS HOW IT ALWAYS ENDS

Not seen it yet due to pissing ‘regional variations’.
How many shots did it have of sullen, immobile kids staring at a screen, controller in hand?
And how many of antisocial kids not inyeracting with anyone, engrossed in a book like Twilight?
Going by what I’ve heard/read so far though, it’s the horrifically biased and lazily ‘researched’ piece aimed for the Daily Mail demographic I’d expected/feared.
Should I bother or just play a violent game instead?
Was thinking of something like Cluedo or Battleships.

It featured normal people who just played WoW quite a bit, then talked about the mental Koreans and repeated those lies about parents neglecting their kids because of games.
The basic summary was that bored people and students play a lot of games because they haven’t got much else to do.
It was weirdly pointless ‘filler’ Panorama.

Ah right, shall probably give it a miss then.
When I was young I never watched panorama because it was boring, talking about things I wasn’t interested about or thought it was above my comprehension. Now I’m technically a grownup I don’t watch it it because it’s just wrong and annoying and feel it’s beneath me…
Cheers for the heads up on that blog post btw, that’s quite flattering. Don’t mind being quoted verbatim as it’s fully credited. How long til I can quit my dayjob then? Can’t wait for all those £250-500 cheques to start rolling in.
Not sure about the lager post, seems possibly like they know it’s a bit of a joke and are trying it on, so maybe not valid?
Handy for a quick’n’dirty update if required though ;)

I think Panorama used to be serious, like in the 90s. Then it went away and came back as this tabloid shite, with Jeremy Vine who after years of Newsnight revealed the unpleasant streak of wanting to be a ‘personality’, getting that Radio 2 show and fronting something that wouldn’t be out of place on ITV.
But anyway, whatever.

Is this program anything like the 1990 Q.E.D. documentary “My Best Friend’s a Computer”? Does it contain lots of shots of people playing games in the dark? I mean, do people actually do that? Play games in the dark?
(It’s on youtube if anyone wants to view it btw. Part III is the most hilariously alarmist if you’re short for time. It also includes a man using a BBC master to pretend to be a wizard in a text MMORPG equivalent. Bet he’s playing WoW these days…)
If it more or less covers the same ground, then it’s remarkable how little views have changed in the last 20 years.

I’ll tell you want I’m addicted to – coming to this site and discussing the shit state of games these days. Shut it down Zorg. You might save my ‘life’. (Or you could push me over the edge. The choice is yours.)

Panorama?
Jackanory, more like.
December 7th, 2010 on 11:05 am
Shutting it down to make a difference to one man’s life does sound like a good idea.
If you could agree to put the time saved to good use doing charity work or something, we might have a deal.

I spotted a Dreamcast on a shelf.
December 7th, 2010 on 3:24 pm
@covmat you did indeed…and once someone checks the UKR Update email they’ll see photographic evidence
December 7th, 2010 on 4:34 pm
That Dreamcast was a filthy nicotine-stained yellow one though.
I noticed a Mega Drive and a Saturn, on a shelf beside a Wii display pod.
I didn’t really notice anything else. I was too busy swearing at the telly.
December 7th, 2010 on 6:42 pm
Yeah, I expected a less heavy-handed approach from Panorama, but there you go.
Yes, it’s addictive, but so’s wanking and why the fuck would I ever stop doing that? It’s when people start wanking in public and aeroplane toilets that there’s a problem that needs adressing, because, subjectively, they have been unable to limit potentially addictive behaviour.
It’s no coincidence that excessive wanking, computer game addiciton and obesity go hand in hand.

“My advice, is to put down the pad, deep breath, ring a frined, and go out and get smashed.” thus turning into an alcoholic. ANOTHER ADDICTION!
Clearly wanted to get on telly.
Side note: Watching Jeremy Vine on Eggheads enrages me more than losing a kill streak on COD
