SHOULD WE BE EXCITED?
This has appeared on a Korean games ratings website
Fingers crossed it’s more of this…..
…..and less of this
That’s more of this…..
…..and less of this
Just so we’re completely clear. More of this…..
…..less of this
And now for the bad news.
Sony filed the rating so it’s likely to be an exclusive title for the PS3 and/or that new handheld thing they’re releasing for people with massive hands.

That Korean rating place is where the existence of After Burner Climax and Outrun Online Arcade were leaked too, Both of which were filed by Sony first, despite being multi-format.
It’ll be an XBLA/PSN download, just like the others.

I dont understand what you’re going on about. I thought Sega Rally Revolution was great. I only played it on PC with a keyboard but I really liked it!

Yeah, I don’t get the hate. Sega Rally Revo is the best game in the series, and this is from someone who bought the limited edition Sega Rally 2006 solely to get the arcade original bonus. It’s a beautiful and fantastic racer which exceeds every Sega Rally except the original game’s soundtrack (thankfully, the 360’s custom soundtrack feature makes that an easy fix).

I tried the demo of ‘revo’ on 360 and I was utterly shit at it.
I’m never particularly good at racing games but this was another level entirely.
Still, if I see it going for a couple of quid I’ll probably pick it up to see if the full game’s any easier.
Undecided about ‘online arcade’ version. Can’t be arsed paying to play online so depends on whether it has any decent offline play. And whether it’s less than 800 points (doubtful). Much prefer to spent 80pts on an indie shootemup than 10 times or more on something licensed and not as fun.

Revo was pretty good, probably my third favourite after Sega Rally 2 and 1. I’d probably rate it higher if not for the AI bug on a couple of levels.
Who knows what this online thing could be? Knowing Sega of late it’s probably something really disappointing like a port of Sega Rally for the N-gage.

I hated it because, like Gigerpunk, I was rubbish at it.
But also because:
It didn’t handle like the Sega Rally I was used to.
It didn’t look like the Sega rally I was used to
It didn’t sound like the Sega Rally I wanted it to.
It felt like an arcadey Colin Mcrae with the name ‘Sega Rally’ slapped on.
Also, it wasn’t made by the original dev team.
I have issues with any sequel or franchise that gets farmed out to random studios*
*Sumo Digital being the exception.
TBH, Sega should’ve given it to Sumo in the first place.
January 30th, 2011 on 2:57 pm
If Sumo made Revo, we’d have OutRun2 with rally cars instead of Ferraris. Remember All Stars Racing? OutRun2 with powerups and fanservice. That’s all it was.

I couldn’t stand it. It was all invisible walls and bouncing around without any feeling of skill being involved. I bought it twice as well, just in case I was wrong the first time.
January 30th, 2011 on 7:48 pm
You say that like it’s a bad thing…
I enjoyed Allstars racing.
The wife did as well. Split-screen fun all round.
Even played online against daughter and her boyfriend.
More of this kind of thing please.
January 30th, 2011 on 8:21 pm
My main issue with All-Stars racing is the complete lack of depth in the racing mechanics, stripping all that was good in Outrun 2 out, in favour of the “press a shoulder button to insta-drift” system, which I assume was added to make it more like Mario Kart.
Bad form, Sumo. Bad form.

What sega really need to do is release a sequel to the gcn game ‘Beach Spikers’. I’d go as far to say that was the best sega game made since the year 2000.

Menstski, like I said – rubbish at racing games. I’d rather that elusive element ‘fun’ than accuracy at simulating the driving experience. That way leads to the tedium of stuff like GT5.
a=accelerate
b=brake (never used)
x=fire
y=boost
Think that pretty much covers it.
Oh yeah, shoulder buttons = trigger powerslide
You could probably trim that down a bit more in fact.

It was all invisible walls and bouncing around without any feeling of skill being involved.
This is how most people dismissed the original Sega Rally Championship. :/
Sad to see so many dismiss a game they should love. People complain that Sega doesn’t provide for them, yet when it does, fans will find a reason to hate, even when those reasons need to be pulled from thin air. :( Really, it’s a brilliant game. It deserves better.

The difference was, in the original you had to avoid the walls else it was Game Over Yeah. In this one you could just bounce off them and continue flailing along in the vague direction of the road, like the sort of skill-less modern game you might play by waving a stick at your television.
I really did try to like it, I wanted to like it, but had more fun playing the likes of DIRT and GRID (this was back when I had to play games as a job and I was the “driving games person” for a couple of years. Although someone else reviewed this one, luckily).

For a moment, I thought I was the only person who didn’t like Revo, but it seems I have some support.
In fact, enough support for the following outlandish comment:
Anyone who likes Sega Rally Revo is wrong

Hmmm…Sega just tweeted this…
Hmmmmm…
