MICROSOFT IS PUTTING A PC IN A DIFFERENT KIND OF BOX
Only it’s calling it the “Origami Project” so people think it’s really cool, like something from Apple.
To celebrate having the idea of putting a PC in a different kind of box, Microsoft has spent 150 million dollars on making a viral flash web site:
Yes. You’re that thing that’s going to be like a slow old PC in a different kind of box.
Yes. You’re going to be able to do all the things PCs can, only everything will be slightly harder because you won’t have a mouse.
Yes. We can go to wi-fi hotspots and wonder why no one ever sends us sexy messages on MSN.
Yes. We’ll be a bit more worried about being mugged than usual because you’re in our bag and you cost a lot of money.
Learn what processor you’ve got, how many USB2.0 sockets you’ve got and what version of Windows you use. Dying to meet you! xx

Xephon – Is this Apple announcement to do with a new system or is it just about the Mac mini? The mac mini has been availible for ages, so if it is, it’s not really a new piece of kit

yeah, its about the mac mini but its the new version that uses intel chips instead of PowerPC so 500 and a half times faster or whatever (although I’m told its actually crap because it has an integrated video card…something to do with RAM. I don’t know if thats bad but the guy that told me was really sad)
This microsoft thing reminds me of a huge PSP billboard I saw today in Leeds. Completely meaningless, just a massive mock up of a PSP screen and says something about the holy grail…as if the the ability to watch half a movie and play Dynasty Warriors on the bus is the equivalent of ever lasting life.

Yeah that’s definitely a cross between a PDA and a tablet PC as opposed to an iPod/PSP competitor. If it proves to be fast enough to do the work of a tablet PC then it could take off nicely.

it also seems to have an ingenious anti-theft device built in; if anyone tried to nick it you could use it to bludgeon them to death with one or two well aimed swings.
