We can’t let it pass without comment that Sony is deleting piles of user-generated content from its tatty little teddy bear game that is ENTIRELY BASED AROUND and TO DO WITH user-generated content.
Just to recap, because it is a bit hard to understand. The game IS BUILT AROUND user-generated content. And Sony is DELETING user-generated content, despite previously being as happy as pigs in shit to tell everyone how cool “UGC” is and how LittleBigPlanet is ALL ABOUT IT and therefore also cool.
We just had to let you know that we have noticed this and are nursing the obligatory SONY DOOM semi.
Sony’s clearly making all these balls-ups on purpose so we can have a laugh. In fact, we may have all died in a nuclear war at the end of 2006 and this is heaven we’re in right now.
This image is taken from Sony’s E3 08 presentation, in which it cleverly recreated PlayStation imagery in LBP. This would be deleted if a user made it. Awesome corporate hypocrisy!

It has to be a bit crap, they deliberatly put that music in that pee’d off the Muslims so they pull it out at the last second, just to appear like worldly-wise, globalised hipsters. Besides Little Big Planet just not appealing to me in the slightest, I find it hard to understand why Sony have decided to delete user generated content.

It is possibly the most retarded thing Sony has done in a while (except for paying people to think up ideas for their shitty games and hardware).
The ONLY remotely good levels I have seen (on Youtube and other various video sites) have all been based around other video games.
I wonder how many people are going to bother even making levels for LBP (and therefore even playing it) – when they find they can’t even make them without them being deleted.
It also makes you wonder why they even nothered to make the game to be compatible with the PS3 Camera thing – so you can put any image you want in your levels.
(Or should that be; So you can spend hours making a level, adding images taken with the camera, upload it – and then the next day be rewarded with your level deleted.)
It also makes me laugh that GTA IV beat LBP 3:1 in Japan on the opening week of sales. (A game designed for the Japanese market (LBP) against a game which very nearly didn’t get a Japanese release) :D

-I ask because normally a company would start deleting content like this if they had been visited by the men in suits (grey ones, not white unfortunately).
Every article I have read on this doesn’t mention any calls from lawyers – it sounds like Sony just got a little jumpy and decided to ban anything good, just in case.
But even then surely it would be possible for Sony to allow creators to make games they own? Apparently the God of War creations were deleted too.
What’s going on? Are they worried that they are going to sue themselves?

I can’t believe how stupid most of you are. Sony is MODERATING like 1 in 200 levels that are breaking a copyright of some kind. How hard is that for you guys to understand? Sony can’t allow copyright infringement and host them on their own servers. It’s the same reason why companies can’t officially host mods that break copyright as well. I honestly don’t get how you guys can’t figure that one out. So there are 199 out of 200 levels that are making it. That’s a .5% of levels. The only reason why this is coming more into light is because there is so MUCH user generated content coming out of this game. The same thing happens with other games that break copyrights. I mean come on guys. It’s not hard to figure out. LOL

Who the fuck cares if a coke can or a fucking oasis lyric appears in a level in some game?
Sony have been so monumentally retarded in thinking that allowing users to generate content wouldn’t result in some form of copyright infringement.
We live in a highly commercialised, brand name driven society. The only things that mean anything to the vast majority of people are the products and brands they see around them, why wouldn’t they recreate these in the game?
Just look at other foetid “web 2.0” shitpiles such as Second Life. You can’t move on there without bumping into some new form of copyright infringement. They seem to do ok though, I really don’t think anyone would care.
They should take the position of not removing anything unless specifically asked to by the copyright owners. But this is Sony, they’re probably worried about their OWN intellectual property more than anything else.
If this is the best the ps3 has to offer then the 360 fans among us should celebrate!
