ALTERNATIVE ANGLES AND IMAGERY OF THE ‘SEGA REPUBLIC’ IN DUBAI
One of our semi-regular, globe-trotting contributors who’s sent in sightings of exotic batteries from at least three of the globe’s corners, has recently stopped off in Dubai – where he visited the mighty SEGA Republic.
He didn’t provide much in the way of commentary.
“Apologies in advance if this was already sent in by someone else ages ago. An otherwise dull stop in at Dubai, but I discovered a SEGA Republic at one of the big malls.”
“Hope the pictures are worth the three euros I had to spend to just get in. PS: I skipped over the batteries because I thought you were done with that :(” – KEXP.
At least SEGA has hit upon a new money-making scheme – charging people to get into a place. Then it doesn’t matter how miserable and empty it is inside.
Photos taken with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX01.
This photo taken while looking up.
He then walked around and took this one. It really is like being there, and we didn’t even have to spend three euros to enjoy this virtual tour.
And let’s end on a low note.

So, is Kidzania a part of the Sega Republic, or vice versa? and are they part of Dubai, or again, is Dubai part of either Kidzania or the Sega Republic?
And what kind of ruling system do they have? Is Sonic the President, Prime Minister, King or Dictator/Despot?
I’m confused.
Google maps initially suggested Kidzania was in Jakarta, so that was just even more confusing. Silly Google.
Fortunately, “Kidzania, Dubai” brought this up.
Doesn’t Dubai look a cheerful place and not in the least like a dusty building site? The Dubai Mall does appear to have an Ion cannon though, so probably best not insult them too much.

Lumix’s are quite good. The battery lasts a long time and it’s possible to find cheap underwater cases for them.
I’m feeling a little bored by Sega lately, perhaps we could get some battery updates in the coming weeks? Something a bit more real and visceral.

Why is A Bit Broken not yet listed in “ALSO…”? I like it when people justify selling something because it was fine until it wasn’t fine.

Floppy – I think you may be even more confused than I am.
Batteries go here, not here, surely?
(Making sure you put them in the right way round, obviously)

Although, to be fair, today’s Extralast update looks as if it could just as easily have been on Sexyexecs, so I think the confusion is understandable really.

Giger: Just reading the comments under the video there, those people aren’t very nice are they?
May 13th, 2010 on 4:41 pm
Don’t know why you’re asking me, Matt, I just linked to the video, it’s got nothing to do with me other than that (other than having viewed it).
You’ve got to love the irony of comments like
“lmao if youve dont that alot of times, your retarded”
or
“omg wow hes like retarded or someting. i mean ive even tasted my pee and thats just stupid.”
You’ve got to. It’s either that or cry.

Yeah, I wasn’t really asking just you, I’m not sure why I put Giger at the start. Though pleasantly it has instigated this short conversation between us.
As for the comments, I used to laugh, but I’m more inclined to cry these days. This whole internet nonsense has become depressing.

It makes me sad and indifferent at the same time. Shame it’s empty, but it’s Sega’s own fault. Well, that and the fact it hasn’t been the 90s for 11 years.
I wonder what the Trocadero in Piccadilly looks like now. I tried to get into Sega World once and failed due to being under their minimum age of admittance which was something moronic like 16. No wonder they closed, they wouldn’t let in their core audience without a parent.
Piccadilly’s a shithole anyway. And Oxford Street. If you visit London, avoid the two most famous places.

I’m seeing a pattern here. Every time we get to see pictures of these Sega amusement centers they’re always empty.
I’m starting to think Sega is funded by government tax money just to distract the local populous from the world wide depression that’s closing in on them.

I see Tor is feeling it too. Obviously there’s some sort of global resurgence in curiosity about batteries that I’ve tapped into. I feel like I’m on the crest of a breaking wave that broke a few years ago but is just now breaking again.

I’ve been there. Its a curious place… either completely empty and feeling a bit like a set piece from a ‘silent hill’ theme ride or something or its full of outrageously excited japanese tourists and young arab types. Not the arabs that waft around in the bedsheets, but their younger hypocritical offspring that hang around oggling the western girls boob-tubes. UKR – first for political and religious comment (thumbs up)
