KARL HAS MADE ANOTHER GAME AND SPOTTED A DREAMCAST LOGO

We’re starting to live vicariously through Karl. He’s got a blog, can make games, and gets lucky when outside with seeing Dreamcast logos (below). Here’s his latest game. We wouldn’t really advise downloading it, but you can if you want to. It’s 1.5MB and here.

“Having had little to do this weekend, I rustled up a little game in my spare time, and I figured its subject matter might make you laugh. I have attached it so you can see it. Yes, I was bored…”

“I have also attached an EXCLUSIVE RED SPIRAL. This shows that SEGA has obviously funneled some of its money into carpet-laying companies in the South West of Britain. It also suggests the future colour of the Dreamcast 2 spiral may be RED. I hope I can trust you with this INDUSTRY EXCLUSIVE” – Karl.

“NEW” DREAMCAST GAME – IRIDES: MASTER OF BLOCKS

We seem to have become some sort of focal point for Dreamcast developers, probably because we’re one of the few sites so clearly desperate for content and incredibly unaware of “SEO” and current internet trends we’re prepared to mention “Dreamcast” in this day and age.

So here, to help UKR move a few pages further down the Google page rankings, is Irides: Master of Blocks.

The nice man from the publisher who sent us the information didn’t say if he had acquired licensing rights to the Lumines series or not.

irides-screenshot-3

They’re releasing a limited edition version that only consists of 144 copies. No one does “limited” like Dreamcast publishers. The maker/publisher has an extremely minimal web site here, if you want to know more.

This takes us back to when we used to like Lumines. Still like Lumines. Lumines and DS Animal Crossing mark the “Peak Gaming” period of modern mankind. It has all been downhill since.

Here’s the press release. They have resorted to saying the game is easy to learn yet tough to master. We are available for hire at competitive freelance rates to “jazz up” press releases if you’re struggling.

Dreamcast Title Irides: Master of Blocks standard and Limited Edition set for release on “Blocks Day” 12/12

Irides: Master of Blocks is an incredible puzzler game where the player has to match blocks of similar colors together to eliminate them, score points and create combos. The faster that the blocks are connected and the more blocks there are, the better the score when they are eliminated! Just like all of the great classic puzzle games, Irides: Master of Blocks is an easy concept, but one that is tough to master!

Irides: Master of Blocks contains over 30 levels of content, challenging players with different Power Blocks to either assist or hamper your progression through the game. Players can also attempt to become the Master of Blocks with a friend in Co-Op mode, progressing through the game with both players playing in the same playfield. A two-to-four player multiplayer mode allows players to face off against friends or foes to see who is the true Master of Blocks! Friends not around to play? Submit scores online to see who the best in the universe at smashing blocks is!

DREAMCAST AND MEGA DRIVE CONTROLLER CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATIONS

The man who makes them says he’s struggling to meet demand, so this has probably already been on Kotaku for the last 72 hours.

But just in case it hasn’t. Sent in by “GigerPunk” who really ought to get a blog of his own rather than writing the UKR/Extra-Last network all by himself.

DREAMCAST (?!) PREVIEW (?!): RUSH RUSH RALLY RACING

Imagine that. Another new Dreamcast game is about to come out. We could roll back the years and do a review of it, if the Dreamcast has survived the hell of being in the loft for the last 18 months, and if the VGA box is in the place where the VGA box logically ought to be (cables bag #2).

The game doesn’t appear to be pushing the hardware to its limits. You could, therefore, say that Dreamcast is still to peak.

“With its 2D graphics and old school gameplay, Rush Rush Rally Racing is absolutely nothing like Gran Turismo, so you might actually like it. Also please know that if the sky were visible in this game, it would most assuredly be blue” – Roel van Mastbergen, Senile Team.

You may order the “Deluxe Edition” from an online shop for a bit over 20 quid. There’s nothing in it for us if you do. This is just a bit of community service, like we’re all still friends.

DREAMCAST LIVES ON AS GENERIC GAME MACHINE ILLUSTRATION

Ill-informed foreign manufacturer thinks us lot in the West are all still playing Dreamcasts. Most of the people around here still are, but that’s not enough to base an import/export hardware business on.

dreamcast-game-system-1

“Power inverter that uses a (poorly Photoshopped) picture of a DC as its example of ‘game system’. What’s odd is that it has a big blob of fine print for using a picture of an iPod, and for the DC they ‘shop out the logo but not the ‘SEGA’ (of course it would be ‘AGES’ since it’s mirrored). Keep fighting the good fight” – Quzar

In case you’re wondering and can’t be bothered to search as the search box probably doesn’t work anyway, we have done a Dreamcast as generic games console update before. There is nothing that has not been done.

ASSORTED ITALIAN DREAMCAST LOGOS

Things have been getting way too interesting around here, what with all the aspirational lifestyle images and youth-oriented product news.

So…

Thanks, Chris. This will shut everyone up for at least 72 hours.

SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL MAKING DREAMCAST GAMES

Just like some elderly Japanese soldiers in the jungle still think they’re fighting World War II, and also eerily similar to how Sony won’t just bin PS3 and start again.

This is called Wind and Water: Puzzle Battles. It is, in the global scheme of things, “new” on Dreamcast.

windandwater-dreamcast

This might be a bit “2008” but we have been made to feel guilty about neglecting the modern Dreamcast “scene” by Redspotgames. They have a shop you can buy this and ONE OTHER Dreamcast game from, providing your Dreamcast is still working and you’ve got a TV that can still take the old, weak, low-resolution signal she produces.

WHO IS MAKING THE GAMES?
“We are producing our games at a CD facility in Germany” a nice man told us in an email

DAN BULL PLAYS ALONG – RECORDS DREAMCAST VERSE FOR THAT GAMING RAP OF HIS

Dan Bull, who did that song about games we did a thing about a while ago, and who may be a #1 in the charts at this very moment thanks to an aggressive internet marketing campaign for all we know about modern music, has recorded a Dreamcast verse for that ‘Generation Gaming‘ rap of his.

And he used the lyrics we wrote. You should’ve said, Dan, and we’d have put a bit more effort into making them rhyme and made it the same length as the other verses so it fitted in better.

Here’s Dan doing our Dreamcast verse.

Thanks, Dan! We’re off to Facebook to become a fan of Dan Bull WITHOUT even having to be asked. How do you like THAT, Richard?

If the embedded player doesn’t work or if you want to have a copy of it for when the embedded player inevitably stops working for no apparent reason, the file’s here. We are assuming we are allowed to do this seeing as we’re co-writers on this.

WHAT NEXT FOR THE UKR LYRICS TEAM?
We’re going to pitch a few songs for Kylie’s next album. Even if she says no they might get picked up by Sophie Ellis-Bextor.

DREAMCAST IS 30

It will be just as strong and virile then as it was in 1998, as it is now, and as it always will be. Like the trunk of a mighty oak, the passing of another year will only serve to strengthen and reinforce the legacy of Dreamcast.

“Thought you might be interested in this 30th Dreamcast Birthday card. SEGA must have printed these up in advance because it must’ve thought Dreamcast would be popular enough to make it to its 30th Birthday. Let’s face it should have been, maybe I’ll leave mine under my telly for 30 years so kids in the future can call it a Playstation and then get a slap. Obviously this one was intended for distribution in Europe as it has blue swirls. Regards” – Barry.

DREAMCAST ARTHOUSE CONNECTION

Never thought we’d ever have the honour of cutting & pasting the phrase “1987 Werner Herzog/Klaus Kinski movie”.

“Time to raise the standards of your postings significantly. This is not just another swirl sighting – I seem to have stumbled upon the very origin of the Dreamcast logo – a 1987 Werner Herzog/Klaus Kinski movie titled ‘Cobra Verde’.”

“You can clearly see the Dreamcast swirls in the court of the African king – the exact same swirls of the Dreamcast logo, rotated a bit, as demonstrated in the 2nd shot” – VMS.
